What is HIV?

This is another sexually transmitted infection and is caused by a virus called the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This virus infects the immune system cells and effectively ‘disables’ the immune system so that the body’s ability to fight infections is diminished. Consequently relatively minor infections can be potentially life threatening. The development of specific anti-viral treatments has transformed this from a once fatal disease to a chronic illness.

Frequently asked questions answered easily.

Are STI home testing kits reliable?

Yes, home test kits are reliable. Each sample is sent to our partner laboratory where we assess and determine your results. All questionnaires and results are reviewed by Irish-registered doctors enabling us to provide expert and reliable medical advice to our patients.

What does a home STI kit test for?

We currently offer a range of STI home test kits that test for HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B/C. When you receive your test kit, it will contain simple instructions to help you collect a sample for testing. You will need to use a swab or collect a sample of blood or urine. This will allow us to test for the above-mentioned infections.

How do I get my results?

To protect your privacy, we will share your STI test results with you via your Online Patient Portal. This is completely confidential and you can review your results at a time and place that suits you. To view your results, simply log into your account using the “Login” button at the top of this page. Once you have entered your details, you will find your results and details of your previous treatments.

What if my results indicate a sexual health issue?

Once your results return from our partner laboratory, one of our GPs will review them. If your test indicates that you have an STI/STD, our doctors will advise you of the next steps and provide treatment as appropriate.
